Timothy: I Corinthians 6:12-20
Flee Sexual Immorality

12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.

14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.

15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.

16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

[King James Version]

Dear God, my Beloved Father, I respectfully offer my praise and gratitude to You. You are the Almighty God and my Heavenly Father. Please fill my heart with love and reverence for You, and I will always turn to You. Please be with me, along with Christ and the Holy Spirit, to teach me every day of my life. I ask Christ to give me new strength, and I ask the Holy Spirit to grant me understanding in my spirit. Thank You, my Triune God.

Father, I would like to present my reflection on I Corinthians 6:12-20 as follows:

Verse 12: Just because something is not prohibited by the law of man or God does not mean it is beneficial. If it is not beneficial, then God’s people should not do it. Even with lawful things, God’s people should not be addicted to them, such as drinking alcohol.

Verse 13: God has given humans things to satisfy their physical needs. However, these things and the human body will eventually pass away. Therefore, God’s people should offer their bodies as living and holy sacrifices to God, so that he may use them to do righteous works. God created the human body to be united with Christ’s body. Christ died to redeem the human body from death. Therefore, humans should not engage in sexual immorality, defiling their own flesh.

Verse 14: Just as God raised Christ’s body from the dead, He will also raise the bodies of His people again.

Verses 15 and 16: The body of each of God’s people belongs to Christ’s body, so they are united with Him. Therefore, God’s people should not join their bodies with a prostitute through sexual activities. Sexual activities make two bodies become one. The person who has sex with a prostitute becomes one body with the prostitute, risking diseases from the prostitute and possible possession by evil spirits from the prostitute.

Verse 17: A person is united with Christ by faith in His redemptive death. First, the union is with His spirit. Then, there will be a union with His physical body on the day of the wedding of the Lamb.

Verse 18: Of all sins, the sin of fornication is the most serious for the person who commits it. Because it directly impacts and affects their physical body. The consequences of committing fornication enter the physical body of the sinner, as all the impurities from the body of the other person enter the body of the sinner. God’s people must stay away from and flee from the sin of fornication. Joseph’s running away when he was seduced by his master’s wife is a classic example of staying away from fornication.

Verses 19 and 20: God, in the person of the Holy Spirit, dwells in the physical bodies of all who belong to Him. The physical body of each of His people is a Temple of God. The whole person of His people belongs to God, not to themselves. Because He has created and redeemed them. The physical body, which is flesh, and the spiritual body, which is spirit, both belong to God and should be used to glorify Him.

Father, please help me to always remember that my body is a Temple of God. I must live a holy life, staying away from sin and using my body to glorify You. Thank You, Father. Amen!

In the grace of Jesus Christ, my Lord.
