Priscilla: Romans 8:12-17
Heirs with Christ

12 So, then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to flesh,

13 for if you live according to flesh, you are going to die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the practices of the body, you will live.

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery again to fear, but you received a Spirit of adoption by which we cry, Abba! Father!

16 The Spirit Himself witnesses with our spirit that we are children of God.

17 And if children, also heirs; truly heirs of God, and joint-heirs of Christ, if indeed we suffer together, that we may also be glorified together.

[Literal Translation of the Holy Bible]

Please note that when the term “spirit” is used without a definite article in Greek to refer to God and Christ, it refers to their mindset and should not be capitalized. If it is used to refer to humans, it refers to the human mindset. When used with a definite article, it refers to the essence of either God or humans.

Dear God, my Beloved Father, today, I offer to You what I have understood while meditating on Your Word in Romans 8:12-17 about the meaning of Your people being co-heirs with Christ.

Before I was saved, I was in debt to the flesh. I only knew how to make money and live a luxurious life to satisfy the desires of my flesh. I thought that fulfilling my fleshly desires would make me happy. Before I knew You, I enjoyed traveling, shopping, and eating in places with images of idols including images that were supposed to represent the Lord Jesus Christ and the dragon image. But after I believed in You and became a child of God, I realized that those things were not true. They are unclean, and the dragon image represents Satan. From that moment on, I stopped using the money You had given me to honor the devil’s figures, which are abhorrent and against Your commands.

Dear God, I understand that when I became an adopted child of Yours, I was made new, redeemed from sin, freed from slavery to sin, and no longer indebted to the flesh. On the contrary, I became indebted to Christ for He has saved me. Therefore, I no longer live for the desires of the flesh, violating Your commandments. But I live by the spirit, disciplining my body strictly, and making it obey Your law. I no longer indulge in the sinful desires of the flesh, for doing so is a sin, and the wages of sin are death. By the spirit of God leading me in my daily life, whether I eat, drink, or do anything else, I do everything for Your glory. Thus, I live to please You.

Dear God, I understand that being a child of Yours means having knowledge of You in my spirit. I become righteous like You, loving what You love and hating what You hate. The Holy Spirit dwells in my fleshly body, which is sanctified to become God’s Temple. In my spirit, I always think about things in Heaven, always considering what is true, honorable, just, and holy. My fleshly body always does good deeds, becoming a tool for righteousness in the hands of God.

Thanks be to the Holy Spirit, for He has sealed in my spirit the knowledge that I have been adopted as a child of God and am an heir to the glorious inheritance of God in His Kingdom. Therefore, I can call God my Father!

May the Lord Jesus Christ grant me His grace to always live in a way that pleases God, by His mighty power. Amen!

In the grace of Jesus Christ, my Lord.
