Priscilla: Romans 4:13-25
The Promise Realized Through Faith
13 For the promise was not through Law to Abraham, or to his seed, for him to be the heir of the world, but through a righteousness of faith.
14 For if those of Law are heirs, faith has been made of no effect, and the promise has been annulled.
15 For the Law works out wrath; for where no law is, neither is transgression.
16 On account of this, it is of faith, that it be according to grace, for the promise to be certain to all the seed, not to that of the Law only, but also to that of the faith of Abraham, who is father of us all,
17 according as it has been written, “I have appointed you a father of many nations;” before God, whom he believed, the One making the dead live, and calling the things that are not as if they were. Gen. 17:5
18 He against hope believed in hope, for him to become a father of many nations, according to what has been said, “So shall your seed be.” Gen. 15:5
19 And being about a hundred years old, not weakening in faith, he did not consider his body to have died already, nor yet the death of Sarah’s womb,
20 and did not stagger by unbelief at the promise of God, but was empowered by faith, giving glory to God,
21 and being fully persuaded that what He has promised, He is also able to do.
22 Because of this, “it was also counted to him for righteousness.” Gen. 15:6
23 But it was not written for him only, that it was counted to him,
24 but also on account of us, to whom it is about to be counted, to the ones believing on Him who has raised our Lord Jesus from the dead,
25 who was delivered because of our deviations, and was raised because of our justification.
[Literal Translation of the Holy Bible]
Dear God, my Beloved Father, today I offer to You what I have understood from meditating on Your Word in Romans 4:13-25 regarding the promise of God being fulfilled through faith.
Dear God, I understand that Abraham and his descendants received their physical inheritance through faith in the promise of God, rather than by obeying the laws and commands of God. To be the heir of the world means to receive the portion of land that God has given in this world.
Dear God, I understand that the phrase “the law works out wrath” means that the law brings about Your wrath, and that it is Your anger that punishes those who violate Your commandments according to the law You have established. There can be no rebellion against God without punishment. Even if Abraham and his descendants received blessings promised by You through faith, they still received punishment when they violated Your law. This happened to the people of Israel.
Dear God, I understand that the sentence “On account of this, it is of faith, that it be according to grace, for the promise to be certain to all the seed” means “Therefore, it is of faith that it might be by grace, to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed,” indicating that the promise of God, given through faith like that of Abraham, is passed down to all of his descendants. The descendants of Abraham include both the Israelites, who are his blood relatives, and those from all nations who have faith in You like he did. If they believe in Christ to be forgiven of their sins and have no desire to rebel against Your commandments, then You consider them righteous.
Dear God, I know that when I have faith in the salvation of God, I must live a holy life, demonstrating my faith through actions and not breaking Your commandments. I need to trust completely and obey God like Abraham did because the righteous person lives by faith. I believe that God is faithful and will take care of all my needs, rescue me from distress, and free me from anxiety, sickness, harm, or lack of anything in life. Even if I don’t see God’s deliverance, seemingly losing hope, I will not weaken in faith. The promise of God is for those who believe and obey Him, living a holy life, not breaking His commandments, and they will be blessed like Abraham.
Dear God, I believe that without faith, I cannot please You. May Your truth and grace cover me, so that my faith can always be demonstrated through actions. Thank You, God. Amen!
In the grace of Jesus Christ, my Lord.
