Priscilla: Romans 3:27-31
Faith and Law
27 Then where is the boasting? It was excluded. Through what law? Of works? No, but through a Law of faith.
28 Then we conclude a man to be justified by faith without works of Law.
29 Or is He the God of Jews only, and not also of the nations? Yes, of the nations also,
30 since it is one God who will justify circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.
31 Then is the Law annulled through faith? Let it not be! But we establish Law.
[Literal Translation of the Holy Bible]
Dear God, my Beloved Father, today I offer to You what I have come to understand through reflecting on Your Word in Romans 3:27-31 about faith and the law.
Dear God, with the question of where boasting is and by what kind of law it is eliminated, I understand that it is the boasting of the people of Israel about having and keeping the law given to them by Moses from God. Although the people of Israel boasted outwardly about God’s law, they did not follow it inwardly. Their faith in God could not be shown by obedience to His law. They only underwent circumcision outwardly, but in their hearts, they did not truly honor God or obey His commandments. Therefore, their boasting about being chosen as God’s people, having His law, and following His worship rituals is all in vain.
Dear God, I understand that nowadays there is no longer boasting about the law because faith in the grace of salvation has made it so that anyone who sincerely believes in the Gospel is considered righteous by God. In the Church, as God’s people, we boast about Christ, for He has made the grace of salvation from God a reality for humanity through His sacrificial death on the cross. Through our faith in Jesus Christ, and by accepting His redemption, we are forgiven by God and declared righteous. We also boast about Christ because He has revealed to us the nature of God. Through Him, we have come to understand the Father.
Dear God, I understand that we need to meditate and carefully follow every word of God written in the Bible every day. For if we only read and listen but do not follow, it is no different from the ancient Israelites. They only boasted about worshiping God correctly, even memorized God’s Word and wore it on themselves, but did not live according to God’s Word.
Dear God, I know that You are the Creator who made human beings in Your image and likeness. You are not partial, and You act justly with all nations and every person in the world. You love humanity because You have created them in Your image and likeness so that they may become children of God. The salvation of God is not only for the Israelites but for all nations.
All people have violated God’s commandments and laws, living according to the desires of the flesh and defying God. Therefore, humanity must repent of their sins and have faith in Jesus Christ to receive salvation. God wants everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth. He grants salvation to those who have a reverent and obedient faith, without regard to any particular race or ethnicity. Salvation is given only to those who have faith, so no one can boast about earning it.
Dear God, I understand that after truly repenting of our sins and fully acknowledging the atonement of Jesus Christ, we are created anew in Him. From that point on, we are sanctified and granted the power from God to live according to God’s laws. We no longer violate God’s commandments but instead joyfully obey them. Our lives reflect love, purity, and justice, reflecting the glory of God. It is through our faith in Christ that we remain steadfast in following God’s laws.
I pray that You help me keep Your Word in my heart so that I may not sin against You. Thank You for Your grace. Amen!
In the grace of Jesus Christ, my Lord.
