Priscilla: Romans 15:22-33
Paul’s Plan to Visit Rome

22 Because of this I also was much hindered from coming to you,

23 but now having no more place in these regions, and having a longing to come to you for many years,

24 whenever I may go into Spain, I will come to you; for I hope in traveling through to see you and to be set forward there by you, if first I may be filled of you in part.

25 But now I am going to Jerusalem, doing service to the saints.

26 For Macedonia and Achaia thought it good to make certain gifts to the poor of the saints in Jerusalem.

27 For they thought it good, also being debtors of them; for if the nations shared in their spiritual things, they ought also to minister to them in the fleshly things.

28 Then completing and having sealed this fruit to them, I will go through you into Spain.

29 And I know that I will come to you in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ when I come.

30 But I exhort you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf,

31 that I be delivered from the disobedient ones in Judea, and that my ministry, which is to Jerusalem, may be acceptable to the saints,

32 that I may come to you in joy through the will of God, and that I may be refreshed with you.

33 And the God of peace be with all of you. Amen.

[Literal Translation of the Holy Bible]

Dear God, my Beloved Father, today I offer you my contemplation on the Word of God in Romans 15:22-33, about Paul’s plan to visit Rome.

Dear God, I understand from verses 22 to 24 that the Apostle Paul had longed to visit the believers in Rome. However, he was either too busy or hindered by Satan from doing so. The Apostle Paul intended to visit Rome while on his way to Spain and hoped to find joy in fellowship with the believers in the Church in Rome.

Dear God, I understand from verses 25 to 27 that the Apostle Paul served and helped the saints of God both physically and spiritually. Therefore, he went to the Churches in Macedonia and Achaia to collect the offerings given by the Gentile believers to support the poor believers in Jerusalem. I understand that those who were not Israelites owed their salvation to the Israelites because it was through them that the Gospel of Salvation had come to the Gentiles. Therefore, the believers in the Churches of Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to share their material blessings to help their Israelite brothers and sisters in need. Their action was a way of expressing their gratitude to God and to the Israelite believers.

Dear God, I understand from verses 28 to 29 that after the Apostle Paul finished his duty of delivering the money to the Church in Jerusalem, he planned to visit Rome and Spain. He believed that when he visited the believers in Rome, he would bring them the fullness of the blessings of the Gospel. I understand that this was because he intended to teach them more deeply about the Gospel.

Dear God, I understand from verses 30 to 32 that Apostle Paul desired the believers in Rome to pray for him. He wanted them to pray that he would be delivered from the unbelievers in Judea who were hostile to the Gospel. He also asked for their prayers for the acceptance of the offering he brought to the Church in Jerusalem. He hoped that their prayers would be accepted by God so that he could come to them in joy and be refreshed in the will of God.

May the God of Peace be with me, my brothers and sisters in the Church. Amen!

In the grace of Jesus Christ, my Lord.
