Priscilla: I Corinthians 15:1-11
The Resurrection of Christ

Dear God, my Beloved Father, first, I offer my utmost respect and gratitude to You. You are the One who is love, faithfulness, and Your mercy is everlasting. I thank You for the new day You have granted me with Your divine protection. May the truth of Your Word sanctify me as I read and contemplate it.

Father, today I would like to present my meditation on 1 Corinthians 15:1-11, regarding the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

Verses 1 and 2: I understand that the Apostle Paul reminded the chosen people of God in the city of Corinth that he was the one who proclaimed the Gospel of Salvation to them. This Gospel concerns the redemption from sin and the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. They were made aware of the Gospel, and they believed and stood firm in faith through their understanding of his preaching. They need to hold fast to it, meaning they should live according to the teachings he imparted to them. For if they only received the Gospel but did not live according to it, their faith would be in vain, meaning they would not remain in salvation.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

Verse 3: I understand that the first thing the Apostle Paul did for the people of God in Corinth was to teach them the fundamental truth about the redemptive death of the Lord Jesus Christ. He bore the punishment for all the sins of mankind and died on the cross according to the prophetic words in the Old Testament. This truth was received by Paul from the Lord Jesus Christ.

4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Verse 4: I understand that the Apostle Paul spoke about the event that took place after the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross to redeem mankind’s sins. His physical body was buried and remained in the grave for three full days and three full nights. On the evening of the third day, His physical body was resurrected according to the prophetic words in the Old Testament and His own prophetic words.

5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:

Verse 5: I understand that after His resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ appeared to Cephas, also known as the Apostle Peter. He also appeared to the group of His first twelve apostles. However, at that time, only eleven apostles remained, as Judas Iscariot had betrayed Him and hanged himself.

6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

Verse 6: I understand that among the more than five hundred disciples who saw the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ in His physical body, many were still alive when the first letter to the Corinthians was written. However, some have passed away.

7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.

Verse 7: I understand that after that, the Lord Jesus Christ appeared to James, who was His brother. He then appeared to all the apostles before His ascension.

8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

Verses 8 and 9: I understand that after His ascension, the Lord Jesus Christ appeared to the Apostle Paul on the road from Jerusalem to Damascus while Paul was persecuting the people of God and seeking to harm them. It is also possible that the Lord Jesus appeared to him multiple times afterward to directly teach him the Gospel. The Apostle Paul considered himself unworthy and the least among the apostles. He saw himself as the greatest sinner among those who were sinful because he had previously been zealous in persecuting the Church of God. He knew he did not deserve to be an apostle, but the Lord had called him to be His apostle.

10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

Verse 10: I understand that the Apostle Paul affirms that it is by the mercy of the Triune God that he received salvation and was bestowed with the office of an apostle. Through the power of the Holy Spirit poured out upon him and the abundant grace given to him, he was able to wholeheartedly and faithfully serve the Lord, enduring more hardships than the other apostles. All of this was due to the grace of God and the grace bestowed upon him, which was not in vain.

11 Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.

Verse 11: I understand that the Apostle Paul wants to convey that whether it is him or any other apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ, they all teach the same Gospel. It is the Gospel that the people of God in Corinth heard and believed through the preaching of the Apostle Paul. This includes the true message about the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and the resurrection of the physical body into glory for those who belong to Christ.

I am grateful to You, Father, for granting me salvation and giving me faith to live according to Your Word each day. I pledge my faithfulness until death or until the return of Christ to take the Church out of the world. That is when this mortal fleshly body of mine and the bodies of my brothers and sisters in faith will be transformed into glory and immortality in the Kingdom of Heaven. This is our blessed hope. Amen!
