Timothy: Romans 1:8-15
The Heart and Mission of Paul the Apostle

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of in all the world.

9 For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the gospel of His Son, how without ceasing I make mention of you

10 always at my prayers, beseeching if by any means now at length I shall be blessed by the will of God to come to you.

11 For I long to see you, that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, for the establishing of you;

12 and this is to be comforted together among you, through the faith in one another, both yours and mine.

13 But I do not wish you to be ignorant, brothers, that often I purposed to come to you, and was kept back until the present, that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among the other nations.

14 I am a debtor both to Greeks and to foreigners, both to wise, and to foolish,

15 so as far as lies in me, I am eager to preach the gospel to you in Rome also.

[Literal Translation of the Holy Bible]

Dear God, my Beloved Father, please grant me grace in my reflection on Romans 1:8-15 so that I may learn valuable lessons for myself.

Dear Father, I really like the way that the Apostle Paul called You “my God.” I also wish to have more opportunities to use this term. I have learned that even when I want to give thanks to You for the blessings You have given me, I must still seek the help of the Lord Jesus Christ to do so. This is because without the Lord Jesus Christ, we would not have salvation and would not be restored as Your children.

Dear Father, I have learned that my service to God, no matter what position I hold, must be based on my spirit. This means that I serve according to the understanding of my soul, not my fleshly understanding. This is why the Lord Jesus Christ taught us to worship You in spirit and in truth.

Dear Father, I have learned that brothers and sisters in Christ must love each other, think of each other, and share with each other all the blessings received from the Triune God. I have learned that true brothers and sisters in Christ naturally have a heart of love, affection, and a desire to meet and work together.

Dear Father, I have learned that when we have received a certain ministry from Christ, we owe it to the people whom God has placed us in that ministry to serve them. I have received the ministry of teaching the Word of God to the Vietnamese people. I owe it to the Vietnamese people if I do not preach the Word of God. I have received the ministry of shepherding the Church of Christ among the Vietnamese people. I owe it to the Church of Christ among the Vietnamese people if I do not feed them with the truth of God’s Word.

Dear Father, I have learned that there will always be obstacles in my life as I strive to follow the Word of God and fulfill the duties that Christ has entrusted to me. I pray that You will continue to grant me grace, strength, support, and deliverance in every adversity. May You bless me with great joy as I see the fruits of my labor in the Church and in the hearts of the Vietnamese people.

I have learned that preaching the Word of God in the Church is also a continuation of teaching about the Gospel of God to the Church. For the entire Bible speaks of the Gospel of God.

I thank You for granting me this reflection. Please help me to live a complete life according to Your Word.

In the grace of Jesus Christ, my Lord.
