Priscilla: Romans 10:14-21
The Gospel and the Rebellion of the Israelites

14 How then may they call on One into whom they have not believed? And how may they believe One of whom they have not heard? And how may they hear without preaching?

15 And how may they preach if they are not sent? Even as it has been written, “How beautiful” “the feet of those preaching the gospel of peace, of those preaching the gospel of good things.” Isa. 52:7

16 But not all obeyed the gospel, for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” Isa. 53:1

17 Then faith is of hearing, and hearing through the Word of God.

18 But I say, Did they not hear? Yes, rather, “into all the earth their voice went out, and to the ends of the world their words.” LXX-Psa. 18:5; MT-Psa. 19:4

19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First, Moses says, “I will provoke you to jealousy by a non-nation, by an unwise nation I will anger you.” Deut. 32:21

20 But Isaiah is very bold and says, “I was found by those not seeking Me; I became known to those not inquiring after Me.” Isa. 65:1

21 But to Israel He says, “All the day I stretched out My hands to a disobeying and contradicting people.” Isa. 65:2

[Literal Translation of the Holy Bible]

Dear God, my Beloved Father, today I offer You my meditation on Your Word in Romans 10:14-21 regarding the Gospel and the disobedience of the people of Israel.

Dear God, I understand that verses 14 and 15 mean that righteousness through faith is the gift of Your grace to all who sincerely believe and accept Your Gospel, without distinction of race. However, in order to call on the Lord Jesus Christ’s name and be saved, one must first acknowledge the salvation that comes through the Lord Jesus Christ, for there is no other name given to mankind under heaven by which we must be saved but the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Those who believe and call upon His name shall be saved from the punishment of sin. The gift of the Gospel of Peace means being saved from death, the temptation of the devil, the difficulties, persecutions, diseases, and afflictions of life. The gift of the Gospel of Good Things means living a victorious life over sin, inheriting the blessings of God, and living forever in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Dear God, I understand from verses 16 to 18 that faith comes from hearing the Word of God, which can be directly heard as Abraham did or through apostles and prophets. One can also hear the Word of God directly from the Lord Jesus Christ or from the Holy Spirit. I believe that nowadays the Gospel has been proclaimed throughout the world, to the farthest corners of the earth. People hear the Gospel through social media, pastors, or any Christian believer. However, not everyone who hears the Gospel rejoices and accepts it. In the past, the Apostle Paul was stoned, beaten, and imprisoned for preaching the Gospel to the people of Israel. Faith comes from hearing, but the condition for faith is sincere repentance, determination to abandon a life of sin, and no longer intentionally violating God’s commandments.

Dear God, I understand from verses 19 and 21 that the Apostle Paul said that although the preaching of the Gospel to the people of Israel by the messengers of Christ has been spread throughout the nations, most of the Israelites still remain stubborn and refuse to accept the Gospel of Salvation from God. Meanwhile, many people from other nations who were considered foolish and ignorant about God have believed in the Gospel when they heard it preached. They even abandoned their idols to worship only one God. Therefore, You has granted grace to those people to make the Israelites jealous and angry. Instead of feeling ashamed and humbled because they knew the Word of God better than the Gentiles, the people of Israel still remained stubborn, disobedient, and rebellious, continuing to be obstinate and refusing to obey the Word of God. Those who refuse to repent are destined for eternal destruction. You are love, and You are always ready to accept anyone from any nation who truly repents and receives Your grace.

Dear God, I understand that in order for people to hear about the Gospel, messengers of the Gospel must be sent out. And those who are dedicated to preaching the Gospel, like the Apostle Paul, must be sent out by Jesus Christ Himself. But every believer also has a duty to obey the command of the Lord, “For as often as you may eat this bread, and drink this cup, you solemnly proclaim the death of the Lord, until He shall come” (I Corinthians 11:26). I myself have been insulted and persecuted while preaching the Gospel. But I am not afraid because I know that I am sent out like a sheep among wolves. I just need to proclaim the true Gospel with all my heart, and those who reject it will be responsible for their sins before You on the day of judgment, for not accepting Your salvation.

Dear God, I thank You for choosing me and giving me the opportunity to preach the Gospel among the Vietnamese people. I pray that You will send out more messengers of the Gospel so that more people will believe in Christ, the Church will have enough people according to Your will, and the day when the Lord Jesus Christ returns to take the Church out of this world will come soon. Amen!

In the grace of Jesus Christ, my Lord.
